Ebun Francis || President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday intensified his administration’s fight against corruption by signing an extradition treaty with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The President also ratified three other agreements covering legal assistance in criminal, civil and commercial matters, and extradition.
The others treaties are Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters; Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Civil and Commercial Matters; and Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons.
According to the President, the development is an important step towards the delivery of the nation’s anti-corruption and economic diversification vision.
He later directed through his twitter handle that all relevant government agencies should commence immediate implementation of the agreements.
The United Arab Emirate is believed to have in recent years become a safe haven for looted funds by politicians and public servants.
