Offa Robbery Allegation: Police ask Saraki to respond to allegation in writing within 24hrs

The Nigeria police may have backed down from its earlier invitation to the Senate President Bukola Saraki to appear before it in relation to the statement made by some members of the Offa robbery gang implicating him and Kwara state governor in their activities.

In response to the police invitation on Sunday, the Senate President on Monday sent his aide de camp to get the letter of invitation from the police.

But sources familiar with the case at force headquarters said that Saraki had been asked to respond in writing within 48 hours.

The source said, “Police have backtracked. Instead of inviting the senate president, they have now said he should respond in writing within 48 hours.”

“This is as a result of pressure from international groups and human rights organisations. They have backtracked from an invitation in person to respond within 48 hours.”

It will be recalled that While parading the Offa robbery suspects in Abuja on Sunday, Jimoh Moshood, police spokesman, said that the suspects implicated the Senate president and Kwara State governor in their confession statements.

Both Saraki and the governor had denied the allegation and indicated interest in honouring the invitation of the police.
