By our reporter| At least 10 medical doctors have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
The doctors contracted the disease while treating patients, who came to the hospital with symptoms but were later diagonised with COViD-19.
The Chairman, Association of Resident Doctors in the state, Dr Abukakar Nagona, who made the disclosure at a press confrence in Kano on Tuesday, attributed the health workers plight to lack of personal protective equipment in the state.
Nagona said, “Eight of the infected doctors have been sent to Isolation centres, while the remaining two have gone into self-isolation in their respective homes, as they were yet to develop any symptoms.”
“The absence of adequate Personal Protective equipment, as well as the failure of patients to wear face masks when coming to the hospital for treatment”.
The rising number of heath workers infected with the highly contagious coronavirus has become source of concern for health authorities with Nigeria’s health minister last week urging health workers to adequately proctet themselves before treating COVID-19 patients.
