2 trapped but still alive at Abuja collapsed building

Six people have been rescued  from the rubble and two others trapped but still alive according to emergency workers at the scene of the four story building which collapsed in the early hours of Monday at the Gwarinpa Area of Abuja.

Mrs Safiyat Umarhe, the  acting Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, explained that the building was standing on a flood plain which caused the collapse. She placed the responsibility for the tragedy at the feet of the Federal Housing Authorithy for approving the construction of the building.

Mr Mohammed Bello, the Minister of the FCT, has directed that an investigation into the incident be carried out immediately. This will be the second case of building collapse in as many week.

Meanwhile rescue efforts is expected to continue through the night to rescue two persons still trapped under rubble.
