I did not receive N5bn monthly from Maina- Jonathan

Ebun Francis || Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday denied receiving any money from the on the run former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina.

President Jonathan was reacting to the report in some media outlets that the Attorney General of the federation, Abubakar Malami told the Senate ad hoc committee investigating the circumstances surrounding the reinstatement of the fugitive former PENCOM Boss into the civil service that the “ex-president was taking N5bn monthly from the Pension Fund.”

President Jonathan’s denial was contained in a statement by his media adviser, Ikechukwu Eze.

According to Eze, there was no iota of truth in the reports.

He described the claim as “a blatant lie hurriedly cooked up to divert the attention of the general public from the raging ‘Mainagate’ and other embarrassing scandals.”

Eze said, “We believe that the story was concocted as part of the unfolding grand design (by the Buhari administration) to always dodge responsibility and blame every evil act taking place in the present dispensation on the past (Jonathan) administration.

“In the first place, we do not believe that Malami made such a claim because he is in a position to know that it is simply not true.”
