Tony Okoh || Over one thousand seven hundred and forty (1,740) kilometers of roads are currently under construction in various parts of the state says Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for works Mr. Ephraim Inyang-eyen adding that it is in line with the state’s determination to lay a solid foundation for economic growth and total Industrialization of the State.

Mr. Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, who dropped the hint during an inspection tour of project sites yesterday further added that the Udom Emmanuel administration is committed to build a legacy of quality infrastructural development to facilitate economic empowerment of Akwa Ibom people.

The Works Commissioner who remarked that road construction was a continuous exercise of the Udom Emmanuel administration’s urbanization program urged contractors to use the current dry season to speed up their jobs while ensuring best standards and specifications.
Inyang-Eyen noted, “The roads under construction here have at least a lifespan of over 25 years and government was not just constructing roads, but creating jobs for the teeming youth, in the second coming of the governor, our people will witness a fulfillment of complete industrialization of the State”.

By May 2018, According to the commissioner, there will be a harvest of road projects in the state to commemorate the third anniversary of the Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration. “ it will be awesome, overwhelming because every part of the state will benefit”

The commissioner equally assured residents of the state that with the quality drainage system accompanying each of the road project under construction and a well laid out plan to empty water at well planned outfalls, flood will be a thing o of the past from subsequent raining seasons.

Meanwhile in each of the areas visited, residents came out in large number and expressed to the governor for the project and assured him of the maximum support.
They equally pledged their support and cooperation to the contractors for timely completion of the jobs.

Some of the roads visited were Nsikak Eduok Avenue, where the State government is constructing double cell culvert to deflood the Ewet Housing Extension and its environs. Others were: 3.5 Km Ring Road 2, which begins on Aka Roundabout, crosses Akpa Ube Road, Information Drive and terminates on Abak Road, handled by Qumecs Nigeria Limited, as well as the 6.1Km Atan Offot Road, 19.5 Nnung Oku Ikono – Etinan Road as well as the 25km Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road handled by the construction giants; Julius Berger.
