Police declare Kassim Afegbua wanted over statement by IBB

Ebun Francis || The Nigeria police on Monday declared Kassim Afegbua, spokesman of Ibrahim Babangida, wanted in connection with a statement he issued on behalf of the former President on Sunday.

Jimoh Moshood, spokesman for the Police confirmed the development to newsmen.

Moshood said, “The IGP has ordered the arrest of Kassim Afegbua for making false statements, injurious falsehood, defamation of character and for an act capable of inciting public disturbance throughout the country.”

“He is therefore declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force and should report at the nearest police station anywhere he is in the country.”

Kassim Afegbua who earlier on Monday denied he was wanted by the police, had on Sunday issued a statement on behalf of former president Babangida asking Nigerians to vote out president Buhari 2019.

But few hours after the statement was released, the former president issued a statement stating that he never authorised Afegbua to issue such statement.

In an interview later on Sunday evening on Channels Television, Afegbua insisted that Babangida authorised the statement he issued.
