Ebun Francis || Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has condemned the attack by suspected herdsmen in Bakin Kogi village of Kanikon chiefdom in Jemaa local government area, Southern Kaduna that left four people dead.
The governor’s reaction was contained in a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, on Sunday shortly after the attack.
While commiserating with the victims and people of Bakin Kogi over the attack, the governor assured them that security operatives have been deployed in the area to contain the incidence.
Part of the statement read, “While the institutions of law and order are doing their work, the government is appealing to our leaders in our traditional institutions, civic and faith groups to continue the work of calming our communities, and bolstering the constituency for peace, security and the rule of law.
“The state government commiserates with families that lost their loved ones and asks God to grant them eternal rest.
“In these difficult times, government will continue to discharge its duty to secure the state, and promote peace and harmony across our diverse communities,” the statement read.
At least four persons have been killed and one person injured after gunmen attacked local farmers in Bakin Kogi village of Kaninkon chiefdom in Southern Kaduna.
The assailants, who are suspected to be herdsmen, carried out the attack at about 9:00 am on Sunday.
Residents of the area said the gunmen ambushed the victims who were returning from their farm and opened fire on them, killing four persons while a woman was injured.
According to them, the sound of the gunshots created panic in the community, leaving residents who were attending church service to rush back to their homes for fear of being caught in the attack.
The Kaduna State Police Command while confirming the incident through its Public Relations Officers, Mr. Mukhtar Aliyu, said investigation revealed that the armed bandits attacked the victims when they were returning from their farm.
Those who lost their lives, he said, included two men and two women, while a massive manhunt of the killers has commenced.
A combined team of soldiers and policemen, the command said have been deployed in the community to forestall further attacks or reprisal.
