The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, on Wednesday once again failed to appear before the Senate.

The police boss was first summoned on Wednesday, April 25 to answer questions on the arrest of Senator Melaye and the killings in the country but he failed to appear.

Angered by his absence, the lawmakers slated today for his appearance.

However, after a lengthy closed-door meeting on Wednesday, the Senate resumed plenary only to discover that IG failed to honour their invitation after the clerk was asked to bring him into the chamber.

Subsequently, the Senate president asked lawmakers for their contributions on the way forward.

After a lengthy deliberation, the Senate adopted an admonition from the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, that the Senate give the police boss ‘more time to reflect.’

A one week grace was accepted to enable the embattled police boss appear before the lawmakers.

The Senate president also asked that the Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan and chairman of police committee, Abu Ibrahim, engage the executive on Mr. Idris’ behaviour.
