Journalist jumps into the Lagoon from third mainland bridge

A journalist with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria on Friday jumped into the lagoon from the third mainland bridge in Lagos.

According to an eyewitness account, the yet to be identified Journalist alighted from a commercial bus conveying him and some of his colleagues to work and dived into the lagoon immediately.

The victim had pretended he wanted to ease himself.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos state police command rushed to the scene immediately but could not rescue the reporter.

His corpse was later retrieved through the support of local divers and was taken to Ebute Ero police division.

Kehinde Adebayo, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), spokesman told newsmen that efforts were being made to transfer his corpse to the mortuary.

The agency, he said, would issue a statement on the development later.

The third mainland bridge has become in recent months the destination of choice for people who are desperate to commit suicide.
