Five Nigerians and two Cameroonians have made the final list of the 12 players who will represent the Republic of Ireland in the 2019 FIBA U16 men’s European Championship division B in Montenegro.
The African players who made the team are- Clinton Efinda, Mobi Kegwuruka, ND Okafor, Nelson Fouto-Tuomo, Roniel Oguekwe, Ryan Djoussa and Wede Drogheda.
Speaking following the teams announcement, team coach Price said that making selections for a representative side remains very difficult and very challenging but hopes that the boys will continue to improve which is what age gruop competition is about.
Price said, ”We are looking forward to this final phase of development brfore the European championships. Ther’s an oppurtunity for continued improvement and that’s what the age group is all about. Making selections for a representative side are difficult side are very difficult and is certainly the most challenging and least enjoyable phase of the program. Weknoe all of the boys who have been in the program will continue to develop and hopefully have the opportunity to represent Ireland in the future.”
The Championship will hold between August 8-17 in Podgorica, Montenegro.
