IGP launches manhunt over Olakurin’s killers, deploys special forces

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Saturday called for calm and support of all Nigerians as special forces have been deployed to fish out the killers of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, along Benin-Ore Expressway on Friday by the police.

According to the IGP, Ondo State Police Command, backed by Special Forces and seasoned investigators from the Force Criminal Investigation Department, the Intelligence Response Team and the Technical Intelligence Unit, deployed from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, have already commenced a massive manhunt for the hoodlums.

In a statement in Abuja, by the Force spokesman, DCP Frank Mba, the IGP revealed that he had also ordered the total overhaul of security architecture on the highways in the Southern part of the country as part of measures to prevent a future occurrence of such incidence.

The killers of the 58-year-old daughter of the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasorantin, “will certainly be found and made to face the full wrath of the law,” the IGP said.

“In this vein, the Commissioners of Police in the affected states were ordered by the IG to emplace adequate security arrangement in their areas of jurisdiction.”

The IG equally assured the nation that the Force had perfected plans to replicate ‘Operation Puff Adder’ currently operating on the Kaduna- Abuja Expressway on key highways in the Southern part of the country.

Mrs Funke Olakunrin was killed along Ore – Sagamu express on Friday by suspected herdsmen, who also abducted some commuters.
