Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, has broken rank with his party, the PDP and congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at the presidential election petition tribunal.
The PDP on Wednesday rejected the verdict of the presidential election tribunal which affirmed the election of Buhari at the poll and directed its lawyers to file an appeal at the supreme court.
But Wike, the governor of the oil-rich Rivers state in a statement on Wednesday, congratulated Buhari on his victory at the tribunal.
In a statement by his spokesman, Simeon Nwakaudu, Wike urged the president to use his victory to unite Nigerians, “irrespective of their political leanings.”
“Governor Wike called on the President to work towards the unity of the country, noting that the country is divided,” the statement concluded.
