UPDATED: APC’s Lyon wins Bayelsa governorship poll

Chidi Samuel|David Lyon, the candidate of the All Congress Party (APC), has caused an upset in the Bayelsa governorship election held on Saturday as he outscored Duoye Diri, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), according to results announced by INEC from the eight local government areas of the state on Sunday.

The oil-rich state has eight local government areas and 45 parties took part in the election.

If the result is confirmed by INEC as expected, it will the first time since the return to democratic rule in 1999 the state will not be ruled by a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
