Ebun Francis| The Supreme Court has upheld the governorship elections of Seyi Makinde in Oyo, Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna, and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa.
The court affirmed the elections of three governors on Wednesday after listening to separate appeals against their emergence.
In Oyo, the apex court The Supreme Court affirmed the election victory of Seyi Makinde in a unanimous judgment, as the court ruled that the majority judgment of the Appeal Court was a miscarriage of justice.
The justices affirmed the majority judgment of the lower tribunal which upheld the election of Makinde as the duly elected governor of Oyo State.
The court also upheld the election of Nasir El-Rufai as Kaduna state governor in a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Centus Nweze.
The appeal filed by Isa Ashiru of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the election was dismissed for lacking in merit.
The Supreme Court equally affirmed the election of Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State as the seven-man panel led by Justice Mary Peter-Odili dismissed the appeal filed by David Ombugadu and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging Sule’s victory at the election.
