Ebun Francis| The city of Ado Ekiti was on Saturday rocked by explosive ordinance which occurred at the EOD office of the Nigeria Police Headquarters located on the Old Governor’s Road.
The explosion brought down a building around the area and affected a section of the state ministry of chieftaincy affairs.
The ministry of finance was also partly damaged by the explosion.
Ekiti state police commissioner, Amba Asuquo who confirmed the incident, linked the explosion to some bomb detection devices kept in the area which may have exploded by a technical occurrence.
“These demolition accessories, in case there’s a bomb blast and they want to rescue the bomb out of that place, they might have the need for it. So it was kept in their stock house and it must have exploded from there,” he said.
The state governor, Kayode Fayemi, who visited the scene of the incident, declined to speak on the issue.
But Muyiwa Olomilua, the state information commissioner confirmed the incident.
”An explosion was reported earlier this morning at the Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) office in Ado Ekiti,” he said.
”An initial on-the-spot assessment confirms that there are no casualties and the area is secured with no further threats. Members of the public are advised to go about their normal duties.”
No casualties were recorded as a result of the explosion, the bang, however, caused panic around the area where it occurred.
