Ondo state records index case of coronavirus

Ebun Francis| Ondo State on Friday recorded its index case of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu, announced this on Friday via his verified Twitter handle @RotimiAkeredolu.

He revealed that the state government received the report from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) shortly before he made the announcement.

According to the governor, the infected case has since been placed under isolation and would be monitored.

He tweeted, ”We have just received confirmation of our first positive #COVIDー19 case in Ondo State this evening. The infected person is currently under isolation and will be monitored. We have activated all necessary protocol to locate all contacts and will be working closely with @NCDCgov”.

”The infected is in very stable condition and we ask for calm from all in Ondo State. We are on top of this and ask that our citizens continue to follow all preventive measures to ensure they remain safe”.

Governor Akeredolu urged the residents of the state to stay calm, adding that the government has put necessary measures in place to identify all the contacts of the patient.

According to the governor, the government is working closely with the NCDC and the infected person is in a stable condition.
