By our reporter| Nigeria’s health minister, Osagie Ehanire, on Tuesday disclosed that the country is already using remdesivir, an anti-retroviral drug, in the treatment of coronavirus patients.
Ehanire who made the disclosure while addressing members of the house of representatives did not, however, disclose said the outcome of the treatment on the patiets who are in Lagos.
Ehanire said, “We have been using that (remdesivir); we have tried that in Lagos too,” he said.
“So, we have tried the antiretroviral drug to see what effect it has.”
Remdesivir, originally developed as a potential treatment for Ebola, is one of the options which adopted in treating COVID-19 patients.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last week granted provisional approval for the use of the drug for hospitalised COVID-19 patients.
The minister also said that no herbal medicine has so far been approved for the treatment of COVID-19.
