Sanwo-Olu gives new guidelines on lockdown ease, says aides who tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered

Ebun Francis| Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday gave out new guidelines that would hasten and guarantee the safety of residents and contain the spread of the coronavirus as the state begins the second phase of the gradual easing of the lockdown.

According to the governor, a register will be opened to ensure inspection of businesses and compliance with physical distancing rules before the lockdown can be lifted totally.

He also called for special considerations for the elderly while he explained that he’s been holding series of meetings with leaders of religious organisations in the state on the best ways to ensure the safety of everyone ahead of the total lifting of the lockdown.

The also revealed that the workers at the state house in Marina who tested positive for COVID-19, are back to their duty posts following recovering from the virus after receiving treatment at the state’s isolation centre.

“I’m sure you didn’t even transparently commend us because we wanted to be transparent, that’s why and that’s the only way we can keep it,” he said.

“They are back here if I must say to you. They’ve been there, and they’ve been treated and they’ve done well and they’re back at their duty posts and I’m indeed happy that all of them are back working with me and I’m excited about that.”

Sanwo-Olu who commended Lagosians for the “encouraging levels of compliance among open markets and non-food markets,” however, expressed displeasure over non-compliance with the use of face masks, as well as the flouting of health directives by operators of “yellow buses”, saying the terms of the lockdown easing will be reviewed if Lagosians continue to disobey the guidelines.
