By our reporter| The All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee for the Edo governorship primary on Friday disqualified Godwin Obaseki, the governor.
Jonathan Ayuba, chairman of the screening committee made the dislosure while presenting his report to APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole at the party’s secretariat in Abuja.
The committee also diasqualified Chris Ogiemwonyi and Mathew Iduoriyekemwen from the race while three other candidates, Ize-Iyamu, Pius Odubu and Osaro Obazee were cleared.
According to Ayuba, Obaseki was disqualified over a “defective” certificate.
He said, “In our view of the issues raised. We concluded that the higher school certificate was defective.”
“The NYSC certificate – and act of the aspirant taking the party to court – these are some of the issues we have attached and based on the party constitution this has made us to recommend that the above candidate thereby his excellency Godwin Obaseki is not eligible to participate in the governorship primaries.”
After receiving the report, Oshiomhole commended the panel, and urged agreived disqualified aspirants, to appeal the decision of the committee.
The six aspirants who participated in the screening excercise are, Godwin Obaseki, Pius Odubu, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Chris Ogiemwonyi, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen Osaro Obazee.
