Buhari, Nigerians mourn former beauty queen Ibidunni Ighodalo

By our reporter| Ibidunni Ighodalo, a former beauty queen, wife of Ituah Ighodalo, senior pastor of Trinity House Church, Lagos, has died.

She is believed to have died in the early hours of Sunday from her sleep in her hotel room in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The family of the deceased confirmed the death of the former Miss Lux in a statement and requested for privacy while mourning the late beauty queen.

“The Ighodalo and Olaleye Ajayi families are deeply saddened to announce the sudden loss of our beloved wife and daughter Mrs. Ibidunni Ituah-Ighodalo who passed away in the early hours of today,” read the statement.

“As you will understand, this is a difficult time for our families and we will appreciate some privacy during this time.

“All information of burial proceedings will be provided in due course. May her soul rest in peace.”

President Muhammadu Buhari was among several Nigerians who mourned the death of the late beauty queen on Sunday.

Buhari, in a statement issued by his media aide, Femi Adesina, said he shared the pain and sorrow of the family at the sudden death.

The President prayed God’s comfort for the entire family, friends and members of Trinity House.

“Please accept my condolence. May God give you the fortitude to bear the loss, and strengthen you at this trying time,” President Buhari said.

Popular Nigerian accountant, and former Word Bank Vice-President Oby Ezekwesili took to Twitter to express her shock at the news.

“Life! Ibidun Ighodalo? Just gone ……. like a candle in the wind. Too much of a heartbreaking news. May God comfort our very dear Pastor Ituah and rest of family in the way that only He can in Jesus name,” she wrote.

Also, the Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, took to her official Twitter handle to mourn Ibidunni, describing her demise as “unbelievable.”

“Unbelievable! Ibidun. .Dead??My own dear Sister. I am still hoping I will be told it’s not true!!!!!” she tweeted.

She is the founder of Ibidunni Ighodalo Foundation, a non-profit organisation created to raise awareness on issues pertaining to infertility.

The foundation also provides grants for couples that require fertility treatments such as in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) and intrauterine insemination.
