Court stops Obaseki from participating in Edo PDP primary

Ebun Francis|A federal high court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has granted an ex parte order barring the PDP in Edo from allowing Governor Obaseki to take part in the state governorship primary election.

Obaseki recently defected from the ruling APC to the PDP and was given a waiver by the party to contest the election.

But, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, one of the PDP aspirants, filed a suit asking the court to stop Obaseki from taking part in the primary election rescheduled to hold on Thursday, June 25.

Ogbeide-Ihama in his filling, stated that only aspirants who purchased the party’s nomination form and were screened within the stipulated time should be allowed to contest in the primary.

He equally questioned the validity of Obaseki’s certificates; the same reason cited by the APC screening committee for his disqualification.

Justice Emmanuel Obile while granting the application filed by Ogbeide-Ihama, ordered that the parties in the suit should be served through substituted means, in two national dailies.

The judge, thereafter, adjourned the matter until June 24 for the hearing of the summon.
