EFCC Secretary, 11 directors suspended by AGF

By our reporter| The inquest into the activities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under suspended acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, continued on Tuesday with the suspension of 12 directors of the agency including the executive Secretary, Olanipekun Olukoyede

Their suspension was contained in a letter addressed to Mohammed Umar, acting EFCC chairman by Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF) who linked the exercise to the probe of Ibrahim Magu, the suspended acting chairman of the agency.

However, sources familiar with the matter said some of those affected by Malami’s action have been involved in investigating the AGF.

Those affected major unit heads at the EFCC headquarters, Abuja, include those of legal, economic governance, and tax fraud as well as some zonal heads.

Some of the affected officials, have confirmed the unfolding developments in the anti-graft agency.

“I wrote and sent in my handing over note yesterday (Tuesday),” the head of a major EFCC unit in Abuja told an online publication.

A spokesperson of the commission could only confirmed the suspension of Olukoyede to the publication as he declined to confirm that of the other officials involved.

He said, “He was suspended. That’s all I can confirm to you.”

The suspended acting EFCC chairman who was arrested last week bases on a petition from the attorney general of the federation is currentl facing the justice Ayo Salami presidential panel probing the operations of the agency under him.

Magu has since denied any wrong doing through his lawyers.
