By our reporter| The Presidency on Tuesday said only President Buhari can determine the fate of Nigeria’s service chiefs.
The assertion is in apparent response to the call by the Senate asking for the sack or resignation of the Service Chiefs over prolonged security challenges in the country.
Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina in a statement, reiterated the position of the President saying the appointment or sack of Service Chiefs is a Presidential prerogative.
According to Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, will do what is in the best interest of the country at all times.
“The senate Tuesday adopted a resolution calling on the service chiefs to resign or be sacked due to the multi-pronged security challenges in the country,” Adesina said in a statement.
“The presidency notes the resolution, and reiterates that appointment or sack of service chiefs is a presidential prerogative, and President Muhammadu Buhari, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, will do what is in the best interest of the country at all times.”
The Upper Chamber had called on Nigeria’s service chiefs to step aside as the country continues to grapple with security challenges.
The Senators made the call during plenary on Tuesday in reaction to a motion by Senator Ali Ndume.
