Chidi Samuel| Nigeria on Sunday recorded 304 new coronavirus cases, just as Lagos, the pandemic epiecentre in Nigeria, has for the fourth day witnessed a steady decline in the number of new cases.
According to the date released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Sunday night, the new cases were rcorded in fourteen states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with Lagos recording 81 new infections, followed by FCT 39, Abia 31, Kaduna 24, Rivers 23, Plateau 16 and Cross-River 13.
Other states with new infections include, Ebonyi 12, Ondo 12, Ekiti 11, Edo 11, Benue 10, Nasarawa 10, Ogun 6 and Gombe 5.
The health agency further stated that Nigeria’s current coronavirus load stand at 43,841 cases with 20,308 discharges and 888 deaths.

-Lagos records steady decline in COVID-19 cases
Meawhile, there maybe a silver lining in the sky for Lagos residents as the effort to curb the spread of the disease in the state appears to have recorded a level of success as data released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for Lagos indicate that new infections are on the decline.
According to the NCDC, new cases has dropped below 100 daily for four consecutive days in the state.
However, it is too early in the day to conclusively determine that the state is on the mend.
But the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Saturday announced plans to shut down isolation centres in the state.
The governor who made the disclosure at a media briefing, also announced increased capacity for public gatherings from 20 to 50, while worship centres will reopen on August 7 with once a week service and at 50-percent capacity.
According to the NCDC, Lagos account for half of the country’s coronavirus cases with over 12,000 recoveries and 194 deaths.
