Nigeria records 325 new infections as Nollywood actress Omotola says she has COVID-19

Chidi Samuel| Nigeria on Saturday confirmed 325 new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the country’s total caseload to 48,770.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in a tweet via its verified Twitter handle said the country recorded one additional death as a result of the virus in the last 24 hours.

According to the health agency, Lagos, the nation’s COVID-19 epicentre, reported 87 new cases followed by the FCT 49, Gombe-28, Ebonyi-20, Plateau-19, Kwara-18, and Enugu-17.

Other states with new infections include, Imo-12, Rivers-12, Kaduna-11, Ogun-10, Edo-9, Oyo-9, Ondo-8, Osun-8, Ekiti-4, with Borno, Kano, Bauchi, and Nasarawa recorded 1 case each.

The NCDC data further revealed that Nigeria currety has 48,770 confirmed cases of the highly contagious virus with 36,290 discharges and 974 deaths.

Meanwhile, Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, on Saturday said she is undergoing treatment after testing positive for COVID-19.

The 42-year-old who broke the news in a statement via her Instagram page, also announced the release of ‘Get Busy’, a video wherein she called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos to take actions that will stop the tragic incidents happening in the state.

She wrote, “I know most of you have been wondering where I’ve been. Well, I contracted COVID-19. I have been ill, in Isolation and Now getting better. More on these details of this soon.”

“I have been reading on the devastating news of how our youths are needlessly dying, getting crushed by trailers/containers! This is disheartening and has made my heart really troubled!

“This can happen to anyone and enforcements can’t be taken lightly on this Gov @jidesanwoolu! Pls, do something! I am releasing this video that was shot some time ago Now as I feel the need to.”
