By our reporter|Some Governors of the South-East and Ohanaeze Ndigbo on Sunday met with Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike in Government House, Port Harcourt.
According to sources familiar with the agenda of the meeting, the gathering is expected to address the recent issues concerning the activities of the proscribed Indigenous People Organization of Biafra and Wike’s stand on the issue.
The chairman of the South-East Governors Forum and Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, who spoke with reporters, warned Igbos to be wary of IPOB because “the outlawed group is trying to instigate another civil war”.
The governor further stated that they were in Rivers State to ascertain the veracity of the news circulating in the social media over alleged killing of Igbo people living in the state, but noted that their findings proved otherwise.
The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo on his part, said the meeting has reinforced the existing relationship between Igbos and the people of Niger Delta and described Wike as a champion of restructuring of Nigeria and a man who loves justice.
According to Nwodo, the leadership of Igbos cannot remain aloof while some misguided few who did not experience the brutal reality of the last civil war continue to fan the ember of disunity.
Some prominent names at the meeting include Governors Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and his Abia State counterpart, Okezie Ikpeazu as well as the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo and prominent Igbo politician and chieftain of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Chief Emmanuel Iwanyanwu.
Also at the meeting were selected leaders of the Igbo community in Rivers State.
