Buhari orders opening of four land borders

Yusuf Bello| President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday ordered the immediate opening of four land borders effective December 31, 2020.

The borders affected include, Seme in the southwest, Illela in Sokoto State, Maigatari in the northwest, and Mfun in the south-south.

Nigeria’s minister of finance, Zaina Ahmed made the disclosure at the end of Wednesday’s 28th virtual FEC meeting.

Alabingo.com reported last week that President Muhammadu Buhari announce plans to re-open the borders after a meeting with Nigeria Governors Forum.

The President who explained that the closure of the borders was part of the efforts by the government to control the smuggling of weapons and drugs into the country, urged the governors to work more with traditional rulers and community members to improve local intelligence gathering that would aid the work of security agencies.
