Nigeria confirms 838 new COVID-19 cases as women affairs minister tests positive

Chidi Samuel| Nigeria on Sunday confirmed 838 new cases of #COVID19 bringing the country’s toll to 84,414.

The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control which made the disclosure in a statement, said the new infections were recorded in 16 states and the FCT.

According to the update, the FCT recorded 297 new infections, followed by Lagos-253, Plateau-82, Kaduna-57, Katsina-32, Nasarawa-31, and Kano-25.

Other states with new infections include, Gombe-24, Oyo-8,
Rivers-8, Zamfara-7, Ogun-4, Bauchi-4, Edo-4, Anambra-1, and Sokoto-1.

The health agency further noted that so far, 71,034 persons have recovered from the disease with 1,254 deaths recorded.

Meanwhile, the minister of women affairs, Pauline Tallen has tested positive to COVID-19.

In a statement on Sunday, the minister said she had gone on self-isolation after her interaction with individuals that showed asymptomatic sign of COVID-19.

“Following interaction with individuals that later show asymptomatic sign of COVID-19, I was advised by my medical team to undergo the test and self isolate for observation over the past few days.

“This is to inform the general public that after undergoing a test carried out on myself and members of my family, my result returned positive while that of members of my family tested negative.

“Currently, I am asymptomatic and have gone into isolation during the period of treatment. Please keep me in your prayers and I implore you all to stay safe and observe all COVID-19 protocols as we grapple with this pandemic.
