Gunmen attack Anambra police zonal headquarters, raze police division in Abia

By our reporter| The rising cases of violent attacks on government owned facilities continued on Monday as unknown gunmen torched the zone 13 police headquarters in Ukpo, Anambra state.

According to eyewitness accounts, the heavilly armed gunmen invaded the station on Monday morning and opened fire on police officers.

Three vehicles were razed but the extent of damage could not be ascertained as at the time of filling this report.

Anambra state police command spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga when quized on the attack directed reporters to Nkeiruka Nwode, the zonal command spokesperson for details.

Also on Monday morning, unknown gunmen razed Uzuakoli Divisional Police station in Bende LGA of Abia state.

The heavilly armed gunmen, according to a source who witnessed the attack, arrived the station at about 2am, freed suspects being detained there before setting the station ablaze.

“Uzuakoli Divisional Police headquarters has been razed. The gunmen attacked it before torching it. They freed suspects but fortunately, no life was lost,” he said.

Monday’s attack joined the growing lists of police facilities that have come under attack by hoodlums in recent months.

Two weeks ago, the headquarters of the Imo police command and the state prison headquarters were razed by unknown gunmen in Owerri the state capital.
