By our reporter/ The Islamic State in West African Province (ISWAP) on Monday launched a massive attack in Rann, headquarters of Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State.
The insurgents were said to have stormed the town with various calibers of weapons, such as anti-air craft guns and mounted trucks.
According to sources, many residents of the town fled to Cameroon as a result of the attack.
Heavily armed fighters were said to have stormed the town in the early hours of Monday.
Though details of the attack are still sketchy but the insurgents reportedly set many houses ablaze after engaging troops in a fierce gun battle.
Another source said the ISWAP fighters fled the town following a military reinforcement.
Rann has on several occassion come under attack over the years.
In 2018, Boko Haram insurgents destroyed the United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) clinic, the only healthcare centre in the LGA.
