By our report/ The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has denied being a member of the proscribed separatist group, counsel the federal government, Shuaibu Labran has said.
Kanu, standing trial on a 15-count charge of treasonable felony, pleaded not guilty to the charges when he was re-arraigned on Wednesday at the federal high court Abuja.
Labaran who spoke to journalists shortly after the court session, said the separatist leader “vehemently” denied being a member of IPOB.
“One of the charges suggesting that the defendant, Nnamdi Kanu is a member of IPOB and he vehemently denied being a member of IPOB,” the government counsel said.
“That is very curious and we urge Nigerians to see us through how we are going to prove all those charges against the defendant in no time to come,” the prosecution counsel said.
Kanu’s trial will continue on February 16 when his lawyers will make their case on an application challenging the propriety of his trial as well as competence of the charge against him.
