CBN office in Makurdi gutted by fire

By or reporter| Parts of a Central Bank of Nigeria office in Makurdi was on Thursday morning razed by fire.

The CBN office is located at the Government Reserved Area of the state adjacent to the Benue State Government House.

The fire, which started around 7am from the building’s fire section, was, however, put off by men of the Federal Fire Service.

“The fire started from the power house and the security quickly called the firefighters who came and put it off, it does not escalate to the main building,” a source said on Thursday.

Bank staff were seen by reporters hanging around in shock discussing the incident.

Benue State Police Command, spokesman, Sewese Anene who confirmed the incident, said police personnel were already deployed to the bank to prevent any form of looting.

Anene further stated that although the source of the fire incident was not disclosed, the primary responsibility of the police, was to secure the bank against any form of breach.
