Criticisms trail Malami’s gift of exotic cars to associates ahead 2023 elections

By our reporter| Criticisms on social media on Tuesday trailed the gift of expensive cars by Abubakar Malami, minister of justice and attorney-general of the federation, to some of his associates.

The cars such as Toyota Prado, Lexus, Toyota Hilux, and Mercedes-Benz vehicles were given to them a week after the minister announced his governorship bid.

Malami is planning to succeed Governor Atiku Baudu of Kebbi State in 2023.

Some of the beneficiaries are workers at the Khadimiyya for Justice and Development Initiative, a foundation established by the minister.

Defending his principal’s action, Umar Gwandu, spokesman of the Minister, said, “friends and associates of Malami donated and distributed vehicles to long term workers in the Khadimiyya Foundation”.

In a statement on Monday, Umar Gwandu, denied reports that the vehicles were donated to APC delegates in Kebbi.

According to him, the donation was to “long-term workers” of the foundation.

“It is a mischievous and misconstrued information. It was friends and associates of Malami who donated and distributed vehicles to long term workers in the Khadimiyya Foundation,” the statement reads.

“The occasion was not for distribution of vehicles to any APC stakeholder. None of the APC stakeholders or delegates in Kebbi State was given any vehicle by Malami,” he said.
