UPDATED: 10 presidential aspirants disqualified by APC screening committee

By our reporter| Ten presidential candidates have been disqualified by the ruling All Progressives Congress from its primaries scheduled for June 6.

The chairman of the screening committee, John Oyegun, who made the disclosure on Friday, said only 13 out of the 23 aspirants screened were cleared by the committee.

Oyegun further stated that only youthful aspirants made the list of cleared aspirants.

However, when asked about the identity of the disqualified aspirants, Oyegun declined to disclose their names.

“First, we have 23 aspirants that we interacted with and my first comment is that we are indeed a lucky party. The point I want to make is the quality of the people that want to govern this country,” Oyegun said.

“We are a governing party and so the ability to lead, the background, experience… it is on the basis that we made a shortlist. I won’t want to read the names, I’d leave that to you, but we brought the number down to 13.

“We could have cut it a little shorter but we wanted the younger elements to surface.”

The qualified candidates are expected to contest the APC presidential primary at the special convention scheduled for Abuja between June 6 and 8.
