INEC explains why sensitive election materials will no longer be kept with CBN

By our reporter| The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will no longer keep sensitive electoral materials with the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN).

INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu who stated this in Abuja at the ongoing dialogue with stakeholders, specifically notes that, beginning from the Ekiti State Governorship election, INEC will not rout its sensitive materials through the CBN.

According to him, this decision is to guarantee that electoral materials for the lined-up Elections are not compromised.

Following the foray of Godwin Emefiele, the apex bank governor into partisan politics, several individuals and groups have raised serious concern about the sanctity of Elections materials kept with the CBN.

Emefiele, recently indicated interest to contest the presidency of the country on the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC). He subsequently filed a suit at the federal high court in Abuja and another one in Delta state to compel INEC to allow him to contest the presidential election while still holding his position as the CBN governor.
