Amotekun arrest suspected attackers of Owo Catholic church

By our reporter| The Amotekun Corps in Ondo State on Thursday said it arrested a number of persons in connection with the massacre of worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State.

The Commander of the Corp, Adetunji Adeleye who made this disclosure while addressing newsmen in Akure, did not, however, give the actual figure of the suspects arrested.

Adeleye further stated that everyone involved in the Owo Attack would be brought to book, adding that weapons and vehicles were recovered in the process of their apprehension.

“We have arrested a number of those who perpetrated evil at the St Francis Catholic Church in Owo,” he said.

“We have also recovered the vehicle they used last after the deadly operation. We have also recovered some of their weapons.

“They came on motorcycles and hijacked a Golf vehicle. We have successfully recovered the vehicle and will soon arrest all the killers.”

When contacted for confirmation, the Ondo State Police Command through its spokesperson, SP Funmilayo Odunlami, said the force is not aware of such an arrest.

Gunmen on June 5 attacked the Catholic church in Owo and killed over 40 worshippers.

The gunmen were said to have detonated explosives in the church after which they proceeded to fire shots at the congregation.

Days after the incident, Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, said the attack was orchestrated by Islamic State West in African Province (ISWAP), a claim that was disputed by Ondo state government.
