By our reporter| Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has been sworn in as the acting chief justice of Nigeria (CJN).
President Muhammadu Buhari administered the oath of office to Ariwoola on Monday at the council chamber of the presidential villa in Abuja.
He swore to be faithful and bear true allegiance to the federal government, as well as defend the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The 63-year-old Justice will serve in an acting capacity until his confirmation by the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the national assembly.
He studied law at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Osun state, where he bagged a bachelor of laws degree with honours in July 1980 and was called to the Nigeria Bar in July 1981.
He was appointed to the apex court on November 22, 2011.
The acting CJN takes over from Tanko Ibrahim Muhammad, who resigned late on Sunday on supposedly health grounds, although sources said he was forced to resign over allegations of corruption leveled against him by his colleagues.
Fourteen justices of the supreme court had accused the former CJN of abandoning his responsibility as the leader of the court.
The former CJN, however, denied any wrong doing.
