Otti’s special adviser on communication, Kanu, stresses need for information ministry to inform Abians aright

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Strategic Communication, Mr. Okey Kanu has stressed the need for Ministry of Information and Strategy to inform Abia people adequately and create right awareness about the policies and programmes of the State government.

Mr. Okey Kanu, who made the call while speaking during an interactive meeting with the management staff of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Umuahia, stated that lack of proper information would make people to be disconnected from the government of the day.

According to him, Dr. Otti’s administration is committed to carrying Abia people along in what it does.

The Special Adviser enjoined all to work in tandem with the vision of the State Governor, assuring that the present administration led by Dr. Alex Otti would work to improve the living standard of the people of the State.

According to him, the administration has already noticed challenges in the civil service system, including lack of discipline, knowledge, skill as well as impunity and corruption and a demotivated, non trained, unskillful workforce. He said government desires to change the way things are done in the State for good, hence would not tolerate indolence in the service.

Mr. Kanu said he came to know the state of affairs of the Ministry and be able to draw up the immediate, medium term and long term needs of the Ministry and urged them to compile their briefs and submit accordingly.

Responding, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Charles Ifenkwe assured that the Ministry is committed to ensuring that adequate publicity is made on government policies and activities. He said the staff of the Ministry would fit into the the policy directives of the Dr. Otti’s led administration and was
excited about the meeting, while assuring that the Ministry would submit the brief as requested.

In their various contributions, the State Director of Information,
Comrade John Emejor, Director of Finance, Mr. Sunny Kanu among others commended the Special Adviser to the Governor for reviving the spirit of the workforce.

They listed some challenges of the Ministry to include; lack of funding, equipment among others and requested that training and retraining of staff and deployment of technology in the service to enhance efficiency among the civil servants should be looked into immediate.
