Senate forced into executive session after Ndume walk out of chamber

Our reporter/ Senate chief whip, Ali Ndume on Tuesday walked out of the red chamber after he was ruled out of order by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Ndume had cited order 54 of the standing rules to draw attention to the manner Akpabio presides over the affairs of the senate.

According to Ndume, proceedings under Akpabio are most times not in line with the standing rules of the senate.

“There are some things we do in this chamber that are against our rules,” he said.

“Nobody is too big to learn…”

Ndume was still speaking when Akpabio ruled him out of order, citing the same section of the rule book.

The ranking senator from Borno subsequently walked out of the chamber,  and the senate thereafter went into a closed session.

This is not the first time Ndume will have a brush with the senate president.

Last week, Ndume was among senators who complained that Akpabio does not allow them make meaningful contributions to important bills.

Also in August, Ndume in an interview with the BBC expressed shock over a statement made by the senate president that money has been made available to senators to enjoy themselves as they embarked on annual recess.
