Hamas hands over three hostages as Gaza truce begins

Our reporter/ Hamas has handed three hostages to the Red Cross in Gaza City, marking the first hostage releases since a 42-day ceasefire went into effect Sunday morning.

Romi Gonen, Doron Steinbrecher, and Emily Damari have been held in Gaza since they were taken from Israel on October 7, 2023.

A large crowd gathered at Gaza City’s Al-Saraya Junction for the handover.
Dozens of masked militants from Hamas’ Al Qassam Brigades and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s Al-Quds Brigades were present.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military has confirmed that Hamas has handed over three hostages to the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) in Gaza.

“The Red Cross has communicated that the three Israeli hostages were transferred to them,” the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement.
