PDP expels Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the expulsion of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and erstwhile party national secretary Samuel Anyanwu.

The party also expelled the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Wike-led faction, Mao Ohabunwa; the former national organising secretary, Umar Bature; Adeyemi Ajibade; Mohammed Abdulrahman; Austin Nwachukwu; Abraham Amah; George Turner; and Dan Orbih.

PDP’s former national vice chairman (south), Olabode George, had moved a motion for their expulsion at the party’s convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday. The motion was seconded by the Bauchi party chairman, Samaila Burga.

The party accused Messrs Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, and others of “anti-party activities and gross breaches of the party’s constitution, pursuant to Articles 10 (6) & 58 (1), (B), (C), (F), (I), (J) and (L) and 59 (I), (G) of the PDP Constitution 2017 (as amended).”

Their expulsion followed the move by the party’s faction loyal to Mr Wike to stop the convention from holding through a court order. However, a High Court judgement in Oyo gave the go-ahead for the convention to hold.
