Adebayo Shittu vows to implement Sharia law in Oyo if demanded

Former minister of communications and governorship aspirant, Adebayo Shittu says he will introduce Sharia law in Oyo if people demand it when he becomes governor of the state.

Shittu stated this in an interview on Sunday on SYMFOMI, a YouTube TV, channel.

“A lot of people oppose Sharia out of intolerance. How does Sharia affect Christians if institutionalised? If there is Sharia in any community, no Christian can be forced to go under Sharia,” Shittu said.

Asked if he would introduce Sharia law in Oyo if he becomes the governor, Shittu said, “Well, if the people ask for it. Even the constitution said it should be established wherever it is demanded. It is open because the constitution allows it.”

When reminded that the Yoruba might not support his governorship bid because of religious views, he said, “You are talking like every Yoruba is a Christian. There are Yorubas who want Sharia.”
