Kano deputy governor, Aminu Gwarzo resigns

Aminu Gwarzo has resigned his position as the deputy governor of Kano state.

The deputy governor’s chief press secretary, Ibrahim Shuaibu, confirmed the resignation on Friday.

Earlier this month, the Kano state house of assembly commenced impeachment proceedings against Gwarzo over alleged gross misconduct, abuse of office, breach of public trust, and financial malfeasance.

Lawan Dala, the majority leader of the assembly, who read the notice of impeachment against Gwarzo during plenary on March 5, claimed that while serving as commissioner for local government, the chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) “wilfully participated in the diversion of funds allocated to local government administrations for purposes other than those for which they were appropriated”.

In February, the Kano state legislature denied reports of plots to impeach Gwarzo over his alleged refusal to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
