Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, on Wednesday said he investigated the Lead Pastor of Streams of Joy International, Jerry Eze, for six months for alleged money laundering.
Olukoyede disclosed this at the Jerry Eze Foundation Business Grant Award Ceremony in Abuja.
“I investigated Pastor Jerry Eze for six months for money laundering and found nothing. There was a domiciliary account; dollars and pounds were dropping in like raindrops from Columbia, America, Sri Lanka, even from Togo. I have bishops, pastors, and imams in my holding facilities, and I have a lot of them who are convicted for fraudulent practices.” — Olukoyede said.
According to him, the agency observed that there was a domiciliary account where dollars and pounds were “dropping like raindrops” from different countries.
He, however, said that at the conclusion of the probe, he invited the cleric and commended him.
Pastor Jerry Eze, is repeatedly Nigeria’s highest-earning YouTube creator.
He has amassed over ₦7 billion from the social media platform.
According to Playboard, a data curation platform, Eze’s daily earnings exceed ₦7 million, with his highest single-day revenue reaching an extraordinary ₦21 million on July 16, 2023, due to a surge in viewer traffic.
Eze’s YouTube channel, boasting 2.1 million subscribers, has become a digital haven for prayer-seeking individuals in Nigeria and globally.
His content, primarily live-streamed prayer meetings, has garners nearly 30 million views a week alone, averaging 418,000 views daily, and his videos viewed over 274 million times.
The pastor’s prolific output includes approximately 1,500 videos weekly, keeping his audience engaged and his channel thriving.
