An Islamic scholar has been killed by assailants in Ilesha-Baruba, Baruten LGA of Kwara state.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday when the attackers invaded the cleric’s residence.

Following the incident, local vigilantes and residents reportedly pursued the fleeing suspects, leading to the death of two of the assailants.
Security personnel, including troops of the 244 Battalion and police operatives, were subsequently deployed in the area to maintain order and prevent possible reprisal attacks.
Sources said security forces have intensified patrols across the community, with investigations apace.
Efforts to track down and arrest other suspects linked to the attack are also said to be underway.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing investigations and operations.
On May 25, gunmen kidnapped 10 people from the Yashikira Emir’s palace in the same LGA.
“The armed criminals, in a coordinated and desperate assault at about 0200hrs, simultaneously attacked the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters and the Palace of the Emir of Yashikira,” Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson of the Kwara police command, said.
This attack came barely 48 hours after three worshippers were killed and 15 others abducted at a prayer ground in the Ekiti LGA of the state.
