Nigerian Army explains action taken at unauthorised incursion of Cameroon military in Cross River State

The 82 Division Nigerian Army has reacted to concerns arising from the unauthorised incursion of personnel of the Cameroonian Armed Forces into Danare Community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State on 9 June 2026.

A statement by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 82 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel OLABISI OLALEKAN AYEN, says the incident was triggered by a dispute over the collection of levies on farmland located between Danare Community in Nigeria and Dadi Community, Cameroon

In response, troops of the Nigerian Army deployed at the Forward Operating Base Danare, promptly responded and contacted appropriate camerounian Armed Forces authority, leading to the withdrawal of Cameroonian troops from Nigerian territory in line with established border protocols.

Accordingly, the situation was immediately contained without further escalation.

The Division remains committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring the security of all communities along the nation’s borders in its Area of Operations, while assuring residents of Danare and environs that the situation is calm and fully under control.
