Remi Tinubu defends akara, Kulikuli initiative, appeals to Davido, Burna Boy, other celebrities to help the poor

Wife of Nigeria’s president, Remi Tinubu has doubled down on her akara and Kulikuli empowerment initiative for unemployed Nigerians as a means of lifting them out of poverty.

The first lady justified the initiative in Kogi State on Saturday where she launched a food bank and distributed N100m to 2000 petty traders, each receiving N50,000 to start ventures like selling akara, Kulikuli,pepper and vegetables.

While defending the akara initiative, she highlighted empowering a jobless graduate in Abuja who now employs 12 people after receiving support from the renewed hope initiative.

“I once read about a graduate selling akara because he couldn’t get a job in Abuja. We supported him, and he now has 12 workers and is doing very well”, Oluremi Tinubu
said.

The first lady called on celebrities like Davido, Burna Boy, Asake and others to form a foundation for the poor, stating that their luxury cars have not helped the government burden following the high cost of living in the country.

“The Burna Boys of this world, the Asakes, all of them, Davido we want to see you with one foundation or the other, helping the poor with your money. Good cars are good, a Maybach is good, a Rolls-Royce is good, but still, you can help The burden on the government is huge. You can still help. There are pepper sellers, vegetable sellers, okra sellers, melon sellers, akara, Kuli Kuli. Akara is delicious,” she further stated.
