Mary Habila’s burial canceled, parents refused access to her remains after a week in Ebonyi state

The burial of Mary Habila, the nurse who died under suspicious circumstances at the country house of David Umahi, the minister of works has been postponed indefinitely by her family.

In a statement on Thursday, the family said
the burial has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.

Earlier on Thursday, human rights lawyer, Chidi Odinkalu in a post on X revealed that the family of the late nurse left Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State on Wednesday without being allowed to see the remains of their young daughter.

“Yesterday, the family left Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State, having spent over one week without being allowed to see the remains of their young daughter”.

“The family desires to bury the remains of their daughter & manage their traumas in peace but at this time, there is no body for them to bury”, Odinkalu wrote.

The human rights lawyer had on Thursday morning published the purported affidavit sworn by the deceased father rejecting any attempt to conduct autopsy on the late nurse.

“I have now been made aware of the circumstances in which this “affidavit” was procured. I will not say more at this time except to ask: Who can be this cruel….?!, Odinkalu wrote while publishing the affidavit.

Habila died in Umahi’s house in Umunaga, Uburu, Ohaozara LGA of Ebonyi state earlier this month.

Below is the statement by the family on the postponement of her burial
