The Department of State Services (DSS) has released one Mustapha Marwana, a Katsina-born carpenter who was arrested over alleged links to the Ansaru terrorist group.
Marwana was reportedly arrested in connection with the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire LGA, Ogbomoso axis of Oyo state in May.
A DSS source confirmed that Marwana was released following directives from Oluwatosin Ajayi, the DSS director-general, after an investigation cleared him of membership and financing of any terrorist groups.
The carpenter was awarded the sum of N3 million as compensation by the DSS.
Marwana is not the first person compensated by the secret police for wrongful arrest and detention. In June, DSS released one Nura Idris, who was wrongfully linked to Boko Haram insurgents, after an internal review cleared him of any involvement with the terror group.
The DSS DG had approved a N3 million compensation package to help Idris restart his life.
In November 2025, DSS released and awarded the sum of N5 million to Kenneth Nwafor, who was wrongfully accused of being a member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In October 2025, the secret police released Chineze Ozoadibe, an Abuja-based businessman, who was wrongfully arrested by a sister security agency on suspicion of her alleged involvement in illegal bunkering and transferred to the DSS.
She was awarded N10 million as compensation.
